Debris Plasma Density Perturbations as Seen Through a Modern Collective Thomson Scatter Radar Processing Chain

In January 2023 MIT’s LL and Haystack Observatory performed a joint experiment to understand possible signatures of space debris in the ionosphere, and we previously reported on signatures of the objects that were successfully identified. This work was initiated by the United States Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) SINTRA program which is devoted to high-risk debris sensing research.

Abstract

In January 2023 MIT’s LL and Haystack Observatory performed a joint experiment to understand possible signatures of space debris in the ionosphere, and we previously reported on signatures of the objects that were successfully identified. This work was initiated by the United States Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) SINTRA program which is devoted to high-risk debris sensing research.
