Power Enhanced Hybrid Chireix-Doherty Topology
The design of a novel power-enhanced Hybrid Chireix-Doherty (HCD) amplifier topology is presented. The Chireix outphasing topology excels at efficient high-power output but is compromised for lower power modes. In contrast, one of the strengths of Doherty’s design is its ability to reduce input drive during low-power output. The proposed method introduces a novel way of combining the best aspects of each topology to provide a high-power and highly efficient PA solution by utilizing inverse Class F as the main amplifier and Class C as the auxiliary amplifier for the first time [1–3]. The RF amplifier designed using the proposed topology achieved a peak power of 45.5 dBm with a Power Back-Off (PBO) range of 3 dB, yielding 75% drain efficiency at 2 GHz.
