A Coupled Inductor-Based Multiinput High Step-Up Converter for Renewable Power Generation Systems

This article presents a new design for a multiinput high-step-up dc–dc converter that utilizes three winding coupled inductors (TWCIs) along with voltage multiplier cells (VMCs). This converter offers several advantages, including significant voltage gain, high efficiency, and minimized voltage stress on semiconductor components. By combining TWCI with VMCs, the converter achieves a high-voltage conversion ratio while operating at low-power switch duty cycles. The design supports expandable input ports, allowing multiple independent input sources to supply power to a single output. Each input port maintains low-current ripple, making the converter particularly suitable for renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic (PV) panels. Additionally, the design includes a common ground between the input and output ports, enhancing its practicality. The article details the operation modes, steady-state behavior, and efficiency analysis of the proposed converter. A comparative comparison with other existing converter topologies is also provided. To validate the theoretical concepts, an experimental prototype with a power rating of 237 W and an output voltage of 395 V is tested, confirming the design's effectiveness.
