A Compact Capsule Antenna Design Based on Metamaterial Resonators
In this paper a compact capsule antenna design based on a metamaterial resonator for MICS band biotelemetry applications. The main radiator of the antenna consists of electric inductive capacitive (ELC) and split-ring resonators. To assist improve impedance matching and frequency tuning, a shorting pin and slots in the ground plane are employed. The overall size of the antenna is $14 \times 14 \times 0.635 \mathrm{~mm}^{3}$. According to the numerical results obtained by homogeneous and realistic Hugo models, the encapsulated antenna operates at 403 MHz with 15 MHz bandwidth. To the best of our knowledge, the suggested design is the most compact encapsulated antenna reported in the literature.
