A driving waveform based on releasing charges to suppress ink film splitting for electrowetting displays

Electrowetting Display (EWD) is a new generation of electronic paper technology, which has the characteristics of fast response, high reflectivity and low power consumption. However, its brightness stability is still affected by ink film reflux and ink film splitting. Therefore, a new driving waveform was proposed to suppress ink film reflux and ink film splitting for improving its display performance. The driving waveform included a gradient-rising driving gradation, a gradientfalling driving gradation and an opposite polarity pulse driving gradation. The results demonstrated that the EWD is influenced by the proposed driving waveform, with a maximum luminance fluctuation of 3.92. Compared to conventional driving waveforms, there was an increase of 2.41% in brightness and a 15.53% increase in the stability of brightness fluctuations.
