Distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS) as a part of diagnostics and monitoring of prestressed structures
Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing (DFOS) is a measurement technology that has experienced dynamic development in recent years and is increasingly used in various industries, including construction. By embedding sensors during the manufacturing stage of prestressed concrete elements, significant insights can be gained into their behavior during concrete pouring, prestressing, curing, and under rheological influences. DFOS sensors allow for the analysis of structural behavior under load and changes occurring over time with a level of accuracy previously unattainable with conventional methods. The paper presents research results on the implementation of this technology in pre-tensioned and post-tensioned elements. The main objective of the research was to verify the feasibility of using DFOS sensors to identify damages (e.g., cracks and simulated voids in cable ducts) and monitor the state of deformations and displacements in prestressed concrete elements.
