Compactability of granular materials increasing the durability of operated railway track structure and subgrade
The progressive degradation of the railway track structure increases the impact of the rolling stock transferred to the track and subgrade, which requires ensuring appropriate track support through the selection of material, grain size and density of granular layers. The study presents research and analysis of increased loads transferred to the ballast. By using protective layers of the track substructure made of appropriate materials, proper conditions of cooperation between the track and subgrade are achieved, ensuring the elastic operation of the surface and minimizing its permanent deformation. Currently used methods and solutions for strengthening and stabilizing granular materials are described. Particular analysis was carried out to ensure proper support of the track grid by providing appropriate granular material and its compaction (including ballast obtained from recycled – unsorted stone).
