Ultra-low-loss bend-insensitive modified hexagonal porous core terahertz fiber

We analyze a novel modified hexagonal porous core photonic crystal fiber (MHPC-PCF) whose design parameters are optimized to maximize terahertz (THz) wave transmission efficiency. The core structure of the modified hexagonal PCF has four-ring hexagonal pores in the middle of the core. The dispersion at 1 THz is −0.004453 ps/THz/cm, the confinement loss is 1×10−12 dB/cm, and the practical material loss is 0.001158 cm−1. Remarkably, the bending losses are much minimized and measured at 1.141×10−28 and 1.454×10−59 dB/cm for a bend radius of 1 and 2 cm, respectively. These implicit results open great potential for exploiting our proposed fiber in THz applications such as communication, sensors, and imaging. Our work contributes to resolving the major issues, including losses due to propagation and sensitivity to bending, in making great strides toward the creation of practical, high-performance THz photonic systems to be used in a variety of photonics applications.
