O fórum de Augusto: o triunfo da memória e a memória do triunfo

In this paper, we analyze the architectural complex of the Forum of Augustus, which contained within the temple dedicated, in 2 BC, to Mars Ultor, by Emperor Augustus. We deal with the characteristics and functions of this architectural complex, carrying out a material, iconographic and symbolic analysis of it. Our objective, in addition to highlighting the relationship of this complex dedicated to Mars with the victories of Augustus, its symbolic relationship with the triumphal theme, and the celebrations held at its dedication, is also to reflect on its important function linked to memory, arguing that such the complex constituted a true museum that recreated in stone the history of Rome selected by Augustus, in which the past, present and future were related.
