Figuring Out Fama: An Intertextual Reading of Valerius Flaccus Argonautica 6.1–30

This article argues for the influence of Vergil’s Fama (Verg. Aen. 4.173–97) on the opening scene of Valerius Flaccus’ sixth book (Val. Fl. 6.1–30) and offers a metapoetic interpretation of the passage by reading Fama not only as a personification of Rumor but also as a representation of the literary tradition.
