Acquired cholesteatoma

Cholesteatoma is not a neoplasm and does not contain cholesterol. Eustachian tube dysfunction and chronic otitis media cause keratin accumulation (acquired cholesteatoma), which then causes local destruction to the middle ear structures and skull base. The incidence is about 10 cases per 100 000.[1
