Compressive Optic Neuropathy; Clinical Findings, Etiopathogenesis, Diagnosis and Treatment
Compressive optic neuropathy (COM) is a type of optic neuropathy characterized by slow and progressive vision loss, usually unilateral, resulting from the intrinsic or extrinsic compression of any part of the optic nerve. This condition may develop because of infectious, inflammatory, vascular, traumatic, and neoplastic factors. In the early diagnosis of the disease, making differential diagnoses correctly; evaluating additional hematological, biochemical, and inflammatory blood parameters; and applying orbital and neuroimaging methods when necessary are critical. In addition, coordination with other branches of science in diagnosing and treating CON is an important step in terms of disease management and the improvement of visual prognosis.
