A Study on Doubling of farmers income in Telangana

If agriculture goes wrong, nothing else will have a chance to go right" by M.S. Swaminathan. Our honourable Prime minister Sri Narendra Modi 28 th February, 2016, expressed about his dream to see farmers double their income, when the country completes 75 years of its independence by the year of 2022, which was seven years away from the base year 2015-16.We say India being a backbone of country's economy, to be often called as "Krishi Pradhan Desh", Indian agriculture has emerged as the world leader by the "Azadi ka Amrit kaal".For the first time in the Indian history a very holistic, contextual announcement was officially made by the honourable finance minister Mr. Arun jaitley during his budget speech on February 29, 2016 resolve to double the farmers income. However, the promise made by the government for the doubling of farmers income remains a chasing rainbow until 2022.This brings up a question of what is needed to be doubled? Is it the value added, output, or income earned by the farmers from agricultural activities or non-agricultural activities?Does this double of income includes only nominal or real income or the income of the farmers from the other sources too? Therefore, this present paper discusses about the low-level income of farmers and year to year fluctuations in Telangana.where the income earned from agriculture was not adequate.Whereas the much-hyped promise for doubling farmers income (DFI) remains a far cry for the past six years.
