Knowledge, Acceptability and Usage of Menstrual Cup among College Students in Bangalore

Background: Menstrual cups have been existing for decades, but due to a lack of awareness and the widespread usage of sanitary pads, their use is restricted in India. They are environmentally beneficial and lessen solid waste because they are reusable. When it comes to properly managing menstrual waste, education, knowledge, and accessibility of eco-friendly measures are crucial. Making the switch to green energy will be simple for everyone once that is resolved. Methodology: A total of 400 undergraduate students were given the pre testes semi structured questionnaire. The objective of the study was to assess the knowledge, acceptability and usage of menstrual cup among college students in Bangalore. Results: In this study total of 130 participants were included. The maximum of participants was in the age group of 18-32 years. The educational level of the participants was mostly in the First year (48%) or Post graduate level (17%). 96% of the study participants believe menstrual cup is a safe device. 26% of the participants have been using menstrual cup and 71% find it comfortable to use. Conclusion: Menstrual cup promotion is crucial in India. To increase their adoption, it's important to target the youth, who are more receptive to environmentally friendly products. The government should conduct awareness campaigns in rural areas and consistently spread the message across all socio-economic sectors. This approach can help realize the vision of a "pad-free country" in the near future.
