Magnetic Compass with a Correction System in the Circuit of Ship's Autopilot

For qualitative operation of the ship's autopilot with application of magnetic compass in its circuit it is required to reduce dynamic errors of the compass. The report analyzes and evaluates the dynamic errors when the magnetic compass card is affected by the transient accelerations caused by the location of the compass at a certain distance from the ship's rocking center, as well as by the ship's magnetic forces leading to roll deviation. Decrease of dynamic errors of the magnetic compass is provided due to application in its measuring scheme of the correction system built on the basis of complementary filter with the use of micromechanical gyroscope with vertically located axis of sensitivity, installed on the compass bowler. The results of bench and field tests of this compass are presented, confirming the effectiveness of the considered correction system for ensuring, first of all, more accurate automatic ship's course keeping.
