Applying Multi-Functional Energy Meters to Build a Ship Main Switchboard Simulator for Training

This paper presents the research and construction of a main switchboard simulator for training purposes. The simulator is built with two generators driven by two asynchronous motors. Instead of using multiple transducers to collect and convert data and analog input modules for the central controller like most structures of actual main switchboard systems and main switchboard simulators, the proposed simulator uses multi-functional energy meters to replace those devices. Each meter will collect all necessary parameters for the power management system (PMS) and the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA). Testing results show that the proposed simulator and algorithms operate stably and reliably. This simulator can be used for training in universities and colleges for students majoring in electricity in general and ship automation in particular.
