A Design Proposal for a Platooning Testing Platform Utilizing Remote Control Vehicles

The development of autonomous vehicles requires verification in real-life testing. This paper presents a comprehensive design proposal for a platooning testing platform that leverages remote control vehicles. The motivation behind this project stems from the need to advance autonomous vehicle technologies in a manner that is both cost-effective and efficient’ addressing key concerns such as safety improvements and emission reductions with the usage of Vehicle-to-Network (V2N) platooning via 5G communication technologies. Our platform emphasizes low-latency decision-making through cloud-based infrastructure. We detail the architecture of both the vehicle and cloud components, highlighting their modular design, scalability, and potential for future enhancements. The proposed testing platform is evaluated in terms of its feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and possible impact on accelerating autonomous vehicle research and development.
