A High-Precision Structured Mesh Generation Method for FDTD Algorithm

In this paper, a high-precision structured mesh generation method for finite difference time domain (FDTD) algorithm is proposed. Utilizing triangular elements from .STL files as inputs, our method identifies the edges of the target based on the characteristics of these elements. The mesh is then refined according to the edge positions, the minimum wavelength of the simulated frequency band, and the size of the triangular elements. This edge recognition capability allows our method to more accurately capture the target’s features compared with traditional mesh generation methods. To validate this, an inverted-F antenna was subdivided using the proposed method. The FDTD method was then employed to compute the S-parameters and the directional pattern of the antenna, based on the generated meshes. Comparison of the FDTD results with those obtained from CST software confirmed the high accuracy of our mesh generation method.
