Distributed Cooperative Optimization for EIRP Improvement of Subarrayed Phased Array with Wide Beam Scanning Range

A distributed cooperative optimization method is proposed in this paper, which aims to improve the effective isotropic radiated power (EIRP) of subarrayed phased array with a wide-angle beam scanning range. The EIRP of subarrayed phased array decreases dramatically during wide-angle scanning. However, the centralized optimization of EIRP for subarrayed phased array is recognized as NP-hard due to the complexity of the optimization variables and the non-convex inequality constraints. To address this, the original problem is decomposed into two subproblems: minimizing the quantized phase error and constraining the excitation amplitude dynamic range ratio. By cooperatively addressing these two subproblems, the EIRP is optimized. Numerical results show that the EIRP of the subarrayed phased array with 16×16 elements, under -10dB peak sidelobe level constraint, increases by 3.58dB when scanned to 60°.
