Design Approach of Wide-band and Wide-beam Antenna for The Phased Array
With the rapid development of wireless communication technology, the antenna with wide-bandwidth and wide-beamwidth are widely used in radar and satellite communication systems. Due to this background, a new design method is proposed to enhance the beamwidth of the printed dipole antenna, thus to achieving the wide beam scanning for the phased array in this paper. Herein, we use the folded printed dipole to achieve the wide-beamwidth and wide-bandwidth simultaneously. Meanwhile, the parasitic elements are introduced to further improve its beamwidth at E-plane. Based on this element, the array antenna with eight dipole is constructed to realize the high gain performance, and the active VSWR of the proposed antenna is also reduced down. Based on the above results, the VSWR and active VSWR of the antenna are kept of less than 4.2 and 2.9 in the operating band of 8 ~ 12GHz, respectively. Meanwhile, the antenna has realized the wide beam scanning performance as desired.
