A Simple Decoupling Approach Based on Edge Effects of Millimeter Wave Antennas
The article presents a simple method to address the edge effects and surface wave impact of millimeter wave (mm-wave) by cutting a portion of the floor edge to achieve decoupling, eliminating the need for additional decoupling units and without increasing the profile height. The paper introduces a design using microstrip patch antennas and microstrip-coaxial feed for a 1×2 antenna array. Simulation results demonstrate that within the impedance bandwidth 22.82 - 26.81 GHz (S<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">11</inf> < - 10 dB), and the coupling decreases from -18.5 dB to less than -25 dB, with the decoupling bandwidth lies between 23.67 - 26.94 GHz. This decoupling approach is simple, remains good radiation performance, and offers new insights for the design of multi-input multi-output (MIMO) antenna arrays.
