Broadband High-Isolation Antenna for The Wide Beam Scanning of Phased Array
In this paper, a low-profile two-port microstrip patch antenna (MPA) with improved bandwidth is proposed, while keeping the low mutual coupling. Firstly, the shorting pins are loaded on the shorted patch antenna (SPA) on three sides so as to gain three minimum poles for mutual coupling reduction. After that, anther shorting pins are further inserted to move these three minimum poles closely to each other, resulting in the wide isolation bandwidth with broadside-beam under two ports. Then, the ring slots are etched to improve its input impedance. Additionally, an 8-element linear array is designed and simulated. The results prove that our design antenna has successfully gained the wide bandwidth of about 16.2%, while keeping high isolation of around 20dB for the element. What's more, the designed phased array operates from 3.65 GHz to 4.27 GHz with an isolation of nearby 14.5 dB between different elements, and tit keeps a scanning angle range of -48° - +48° at 3.98 GHz.
