Design of an amplifying polarization-converting metasurface element
This paper presents a design of amplifying metasurface element with polarization conversion. The element consists of a receiving patch, a power amplifier circuit, and a re-radiating patch. It is capable of converting the incident electromagnetic (EM) waves from linear polarization to orthogonal polarization before reflection, and amplifying the reflected EM wave through the amplification circuit. We fabricate a 4 × 4 unit experimental prototype and test it in a microwave anechoic chamber. Experimental results indicate that the unit operates at the frequency of 5.73 GHz and achieves gain of 12 dB. The proposed element design holds promise for future wireless coverage enhancement scenarios.
