Dual-Band Shared-Aperture Frequency-Scanning Antenna Based on Spoof Surface Plasmon Polaritons
A leaky-wave antenna (LWA) utilizing different modulation periods to achieve frequency scanning in dual bands within a spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs) structure is proposed. This antenna can achieve radiation leakage from microwave to millimeter-wave bands under the same aperture. Before the fundamental mode cut-off frequency of the periodic structure, the antenna realizes frequency scanning in the microwave band through external periodic disturbances. Frequency scanning leakage in the millimeter wave band is achieved via SSPP periodic structure modulation. The modulated radiation structures of the two bands operate under the same aperture, with independent radiation modes. Finally, the proposed antenna achieves a 93° (-90° to 3°) beam scanning angle in the slow wave band (4.5-8 GHz), and a 96° (-70° to 26°) beam scanning angle in the fast wave band (9-21 GHz). The average realized gain in the two operating bands is about 8dBi, and the radiation efficiency is greater than 85%.
