A Dual-Band Common Aperture Reconfigurable Metasurface Element
Reconfigurable metasurfaces are considered as high potential devices that can replace phased array antennas to a certain extent in radar and communication systems in the future, as they not only play a role in beam modulation but also significantly reduce their cost compared to phased array antennas. Universally, most current metasurfaces were operated at one frequency band, which has a limitation in flexibility. Therefore, we propose a dual-band common aperture reconfigurable metasurface at X and Ka bands. Their center frequencies are 11.8 GHz and 28 GHz, where the metasurface has a 1-bit phase switch. Besides, this element uses only one positive intrinsic-negative (PIN) diode to simultaneously manipulate two frequency bands, minimizing the number of active devices and simplifying the control circuit.
