A Gradient Descent Method for Phase Only Pattern synthesis of Irregular Subarray
The subarray method is a cost-efficient strategy for minimizing expenses in phased array systems. By grouping several elements into a subarray, the number of radio frequency (RF) chains and the overall system complexity can be decreased. However, optimizing the radiation pattern of irregular subarray continues to be a significant research challenge. A novel gradient descent method is proposed to achieve pattern synthesis for L-octomino-shaped, and skew-tetromino-shaped & L-tetromino-shaped subarray configurations on a 16×16-dimensional array. Dual-beam and flat-topped beam pattern synthesis results are presented to demonstrate that the proposed method performs effectively on the subarray configurations.
