A Wideband Filtering Dielectric Resonator Antenna

A wideband filtering dielectric resonator antenna (FDRA) with compact structure is proposed. The DRA is fed by three vertical stepped metal strip and two rectangular rings, excited in its fundamental TE111 mode. Therefore, the antenna achieves a wide bandwidth of 28.9% and obtains a smooth average realized gain of 5.5 dBi. Besides, the feed structure produces two radiation nulls close to the lower and upper edges of the passband, enabling FDRA to achieve out-of-band rejection of over 15dB.

Abstract

A wideband filtering dielectric resonator antenna (FDRA) with compact structure is proposed. The DRA is fed by three vertical stepped metal strip and two rectangular rings, excited in its fundamental TE111 mode. Therefore, the antenna achieves a wide bandwidth of 28.9% and obtains a smooth average realized gain of 5.5 dBi. Besides, the feed structure produces two radiation nulls close to the lower and upper edges of the passband, enabling FDRA to achieve out-of-band rejection of over 15dB.
