Height-Adjustable Phased Array with Regulated RCS Amplitude for Dual-Linear Polarized Waves

A height-adjustable phased array’s (hPA’s) is designed in this work with monostatic radar cross section (mRCS) amplitude regulation performance for dual-linear polarized waves. Based on the analysis on the antenna’s structural mode scattering and antenna mode scattering, the reflection coefficient with higher-order-mode condition has been integrated into the antenna mode scattering. With the perfect absorption for in-band RCS reduction, the inevitable higher-order-mode reflection at ultra-wideband frequency has been considered to realize the hPA’s mRCS amplitude regulation. Finally, a 4 × 8-element hPA optimized for 5 and 15 dB ultra-wideband mRCS reductions is designed, measured, and analyzed. The proposed analysis method for an antenna’s scattering characteristics will provide a new perspective for the realization of PA’s ultra-wideband mRCS reduction.
