A Compact Dual-Band Structure-Shared Antenna for Sub-6 GHz and 5G millimeter-Wave Applications

This paper introduces a compact dual-band structure-shared antenna for sub-6 GHz and 5G millimeter-wave (MMW) applications. The antenna composites of a printed monopole structure operating in the microwave (MW) band and a SIW slot antenna operating in the 38 GHz MMW band. The structure-shared design contributes to reducing antenna size and improving space utilization. Simulation results indicate that the antenna's impedance bandwidth spans from 3.25 GHz to 6 GHz in the MW band and from 36.6 GHz to 41.2 GHz in the MMW band, with peak gain and efficiency achieved at 4.2/11.7 dBi and 96/90%, respectively. The proposed antenna shows stable radiation performance in two frequency bands. Isolation of 26 dB is achieved, ensuring the independent operation between two frequency bands and allowing for a combination of different frequency ratios.
