Validation of traditional electric dipole model of the corrosion-related static electric source with a FEM simulation model

When ships navigate and dock at sea, the static electric field with significant characteristic is generated due to electrochemical corrosion. Through the use of the finite element method-based multiphysics simulation software COMSOL, simulations of the spatial electric field of typical targets have been conducted. The simulation results indicate that corrosion-related static electric fields exhibit distinct distribution characteristics. This paper supplements the traditional dipole method for modeling ship static electric fields, and compares the results of the dipole modeling with simulations in COMSOL. The analytical results verify that under certain conditions, the electric field simulated by the dipole method is highly similar in numerical magnitude and spatial distribution to that simulated by the COMSOL software.
