Flat-Top Metasurface Lens Antenna Synthesized by Woodward-Lawson Method

This paper presents a flat-top metasurface (MS) lens antenna synthesized by the Woodward-Lawson Method. The proposed MS lens antenna is composed of an MS and a circular patch antenna, while the patch antenna serves as the feed. To determine the transmission phase and amplitude distribution of the MS, theoretical analyses are applied. Then, a simulation model is established to verify the analyses. The proposed MS antenna operates at the central frequency of 10 GHz. The size is 6λ<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">0</inf>×6λ<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">0</inf>×1.53λ<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">0</inf> (where λ<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">0</inf> is the free-space wavelength). Simulated results show that a flat-top pattern is generated with a peak gain of 12.6 dBi and a 2-dB fluctuation range of nearly ±21°.
