Design of Wide Band Rectangular-Shaped Antenna Array for 5 G mmwave Communications
This paper presents a wideband mmWave antenna array for 5G network. The proposed single element is designed on Rogers 5880 substrate having dimensions of 8×10 mm2, it is then converted into a four elements array system with an entire size of 15×26 mm2. A single element is rectangulary designed which is tranformed into 1×4 array to achieve high gain. The rectangular patch and half ground plane are truncated in the top middles. The proposed antenna array operates in the Kaband, covering a wide band from 24 GHz to 40 GHz, including the 28 GHz and 38 GHz licensed bands for 5G communications. The peak gains of the single element and four elements array are 4.1 dB and 7.3 dB at 28 GHz and 4.3 and 8.5 at 38 GHz, respectively. Features such as simple design, compact size, wide bandwidth and high gain make it a suitable candidate for fifth-generation (5G) communication systems.
