A Model for Scattering of Composite with Randomly Distributed Fibers

Fiber-reinforced composites are commonly used for good electromagnetic properties such as wave absorption. This paper proposes a multi-scale model for studying the scattering properties of composites with randomly distributed micro fibers by Fourier modal method. Reflection coefficient is calculated and compared with the simulation result from commercial software HFSS, proving the calculation is valid and correct. The relationship between scattering properties of fiber-reinforced composites and randomness of fiber distribution is investigated through this model.

Abstract

Fiber-reinforced composites are commonly used for good electromagnetic properties such as wave absorption. This paper proposes a multi-scale model for studying the scattering properties of composites with randomly distributed micro fibers by Fourier modal method. Reflection coefficient is calculated and compared with the simulation result from commercial software HFSS, proving the calculation is valid and correct. The relationship between scattering properties of fiber-reinforced composites and randomness of fiber distribution is investigated through this model.
