Design and Simulation of an Ultra-Wideband Energy Selective Surface
In this paper, an ultra-wideband energy selective surface (ESS) for high-power microwave (HPM) protection is designed. Based on the adaptive transformation of the PIN with the power, which makes the passband moved. Afterwards, by designing the filtering equivalent circuit, the ESS model is devised to realize the requirement of being a band-pass filter in the operating band when the low-power electromagnetic wave is incident with low insertion loss (IL). Meanwhile, it has very high shielding effectiveness (SE) when the high-power electromagnetic wave is incident. Whatsmore, using the mapping relationship between the equivalent circuit and the model structure, the ESS model is conceived. Moreover, the performance of the ESS model is investigated by combining the equivalent circuit model with the advanced design system (ADS) and the full-wave simulation in the 3-D electromagnetic simulation software computer simulation technology (CST). The emulation results demonstrate that low IL less than 1 dB bandwidth is 6.7 GHz-14 GHz with a relative bandwidth of 70% at low-power electromagnetic wave incidence, and the SE is greater than 26 dB at high-power incidence in the corresponding frequency band. It also realizes the TE and TM dual-polarization characteristics and 60° angular stability.
