Design of 1-bit Reconfigurable Transmission Metasurface Cell with Spatial Wave Enhancement

This paper presents a novel active amplified 1-bit reconfigurable transmission metasurface unit that amplifies an incident wave and modulates its transmission phase. The unit consists of three components: a radiating and receiving patch, two PIN diodes, and a transmission amplifier. The receiving patch transfers the incident wave energy into the amplifier and re-radiates it into space with enhanced amplitude and modulated transmission phase. Additionally, the unit features a function that allows for polarization switching. Simulation results show that the amplified reconfigurable transmission unit achieves a phase difference of 180° ± 5° spanning the simulation bandwidth from 4.5 to 5.5 GHz, with a center frequency of 5.0 GHz. The spatial amplification factor is more than 0 dB in the frequency range of 4.73 to 5.24 GHz, with a maximum value of 12 dB. The design provides a new idea for metasurface applications in the field of wireless power transfer.
