RCS Reduction of Vivaldi Antenna Based on Characteristic Mode Theory

In this paper, a low radar cross section (RCS) Vivaldi antenna which covers entire X-band is designed based on Characteristic Mode Analysis (CMA). A typical frequency point (8.5Hz) is selected for applying CMA. The analysis of the magnitude and phase of each mode is introduced, which makes the analysis more effective for guiding the RCS reduction design. By modification, the whole scattering modes are effectively suppressed and the monostatic RCS is reduced significantly.
