An extremely low-profile wideband patch antenna for 5G smartphones
In this work, an extremely low-profile and broadband multimode microstrip antenna is proposed for fifth-generation mobile applications. By cutting two unsymmetrical slots and loading two metallic vias on the microstrip antenna, the TM10 and Anti-TM10 mode are excited simultaneously to achieve the broadband operation in an extremely low-profile of 0.9 mm. The volume of the proposed antenna is 31.3×30.3×0.9 mm3. The simulated results show that the antenna has the bandwidth of 4.25-5.07 GHz, covering the 5G N79 band. The proposed antenna has the advantage of low-profile, large bandwidth, high total efficiency, providing a feasible solution of 5G mobile phone antenna on the back cover of the device.
