Big Heart, Small Shoes: Heart Failure in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, More Than Lupus Cardiac Involvement
Acromegaly is a rare endocrine disorder characterized by chronic elevation of growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor-1, leading to enlargement of organs and soft tissues. Cardiovascular disease is the most frequent comorbidity and the most common cause of death in patients with acromegaly. We report a rare case of a 35-year-old woman with heart failure caused by concomitant systemic lupus erythematosus and acromegaly. Initially, the early onset of cardiac insufficiency and ventricular enlargement was attributed to the systemic lupus erythematosus, but it did not respond well to the treatment.
