Measurements and Modeling of Depolarization Characteristics From Rough Surfaces at Sub-THz Band for Indoor Short-Range Communications
The polarization characteristics of electromagnetic waves in the channel are crucial for radio transmission technology. In this letter, the depolarization properties of building materials in the sub-terahertz (THz) band are investigated. First, a depolarization modeling assisted by Mie scattering models is proposed. Second, the depolarization characteristics of four building materials at 129.5 GHz to 135 GHz are investigated by experimental measurements. Finally, the material depolarization characteristics in the sub-THz band are comprehensively analyzed in terms of depolarization coefficients and cross polarization discrimination ratios. The results show that the material depolarization characteristics at sub-THz have obvious incident angle, material type and frequency dependence. The results in this letter provide valuable data sets and depolarization propagation model for communication research in the sub-THz band.
