The Implementation of A Mini-Generation Photovoltaic Power Plant in A Brazilian Federal University

Objective: The objective of this study is to present partial results of a doctoral thesis that seeks to identify how the implementation of a photovoltaic mini-generation plant in a Brazilian federal university can contribute to the university community in terms of reducing costs and environmental preservation. Theoretical Framework: The study starts from a contextualization of the limitations of the production and use of traditional energies, until presenting the perspective of renewable energies in Brazil with special attention to solar energy and photovoltaic systems. The approach is also anchored in authors who guide this discussion from the perspective of sustainability. Method: The methodology used was descriptive-exploratory, qualitative, using an open questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. In it, the main people involved in the implementation of the photovoltaic mini-generation plant were heard, as well as in the evaluation of the results achieved so far. Results and Discussion: The results obtained revealed that the photovoltaic system can bring benefits in the long term, most of the interviewees consider Brazil's great potential in expanding the exploration of other energy sources, hydroelectric, which in addition to being costly, brings fewer advantages related to environmental contexts and social. Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research are discussed, providing insights into how the results can be applied or influence practices in the field of Environmental Management. These implications may encompass the environmental policies of Higher Education Institutions, promoting a paradigm shift from the perspective of sustainability. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature by bringing the experience of one of the Federal Education institutions that believes in changing the consumption paradigm through the innovative approach of implementing the photovoltaic system from the perspective of sustainability. In this sense, the study reveals that the system can bring long-term benefits, as Brazil has great potential in this area. The institution studied can be a reference in this area.
