Exploring 20 Years of Employment and Labour Force Participation in Karnataka: A Study of Post-Reform Trends (1993-2012)

This study examines labour market trends in Karnataka from 1993 to 2012, focusing on labour force participation rates (LFPR), gender-based employment disparities, and socio-demographic determinants influencing workforce engagement.Utilizing data from the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) Employment and Unemployment Surveys (EUS), the analysis highlights significant shifts in LFPR, with a notable decline in both rural and urban areas over the period. The research identifies persistent gender disparities, with women predominantly engaged in unpaid and own account work, while men are more likely to hold regular jobs.A Logit model analysis reveals key determinants of labour force participation, including family size, education, age, marital status, caste, and gender, with marked differences between rural and urban areas. The study underscores the need for targeted policies to address gender imbalances and enhance equitable employment opportunities, offering critical insights into the evolving labour market dynamics in Karnataka.
