Labour Force Shifts and Employment Patterns in Maharashtra: A Two-Decade Study Post-Economic Reforms
This study examines labour market trends in Maharashtra from 1993 to 2012, focusing on Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR), gender disparities, and the influence of socio-demographic factors.Using data from the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) Employment and Unemployment Surveys, the research highlights a decline in LFPR, significant gender disparities, and rural-urban differences.A Logit model analysis reveals key determinants of labour force participation, including family size, education, marital status, and caste, with notable differences between rural and urban areas. The study underscores the complex interplay of sociodemographic factors shaping labour market dynamics, offering insights into the evolving employment patterns and the persistent challenges faced by various demographic groups. This comprehensive analysis provides a nuanced understanding of labour force participation in Maharashtra, informing policy discussions aimed at addressing gender inequalities and enhancing workforce engagement.
