Dynamic 3D optofluidic control: a multifunctional platform for microfluidic applications
Optothermal and optofluidic manipulation have emerged as effective techniques for the precise control over particles, cells, and biomolecules through the interplay of optical, thermal, and hydrodynamic forces. In this study, we demonstrate that meticulous 3D engineering of thermal landscapes can induce both short- and long-range microfluidic flows to create optofluidic obstacles to guide, trap, and sort microparticles. By utilizing spatial light modulation to locally control temperature fields, we can generate a variety of microfluidic actuators, including pumps, traps, and valves. This flexibility in designing the optofluidic environment offers a comprehensive toolbox for a wide range of applications within microfluidics.
