An alternative technique in management of recipient left superior vena cava in orthotopic heart transplantation
Persistent left superior vena cava (LSVC) is a rare venous anomaly resulting from failed involution of an embryonic vessel.1 The left internal jugular and left subclavian veins thereby join to pass through the left mediastinum, most commonly draining into the coronary sinus (CS). During orthotopic heart transplantation in patients with LSVC, one must consider how to reestablish LSVC drainage. Conventional techniques have required an additional anastomosis to the donor innominate vein, right superior vena cava (SVC), or right atrial appendage.
