Comparative Evaluation Of Wound Healing In Periodontal Flaps Approximated With N-Hexyl Cyanoacrylate And Isoamyl-2-Cyanoacrylate Tissue Adhesives – A Clinico-Histological Study.
The main goal of this trial was to compare the clinical outcomes of utilizing tissue adhesives and conventional black braided sutures for flap closure in periodontal surgery.Subjects with chronic periodontitis were randomly assigned to three groups: Group 1 used N-hexyl-cyanoacrylate, Group 2 used Isoamyl-2-cyanoacrylate, and Group 3 employed 3-0 black braided silk sutures for periodontal flap approximation.Clinical parameters like plaque index, gingival index, healing index, pain score, and degree of inflammation were recorded at baseline, 7 days, 1 month, and 3 months postoperatively.Standardized gingival punch biopsies were harvested for histological examination. The results indicated that Group 1, using N-hexyl-cyanoacrylate, showed superior healing outcomes, with reduced inflammation and lower pain scores compared to the other groups.Group 2, using Isoamyl-2-cyanoacrylate, also demonstrated favourable results, albeit slightly less effective than Group 1.The control group, which utilized traditional sutures, exhibited delayed healing, higher pain levels, and more pronounced inflammation.Histological analysis supported these findings, revealing fewer inflammatory cells in the tissue adhesive groups. In conclusion, tissue adhesives, particularly N-hexyl-cyanoacrylate, appear to offer significant advantages over conventional sutures in periodontal flap surgery. They promote faster healing, reduce postoperative discomfort, and minimize inflammation, making them a viable alternative for periodontal flap closure.
