Efficacy and Safety Assessment of Custom 3D-Printed Cervical Pillows for the Treatment of Mechanical Cervical Spondylosis Based on Finite Element Analysis

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the custom 3D printed cervical pillow for the treatment of mechanical cervical spondylosis using the finite element method. Methods: A finite element model of the cervical spine and pillow was constructed using CT and 3D scanning data. The study calculated changes in cervical spine stress and deformation in a supine position under three conditions: lying naturally, using a latex pillow, and using a 3D-printed pillow. Results: The use of custom 3D printed cervical pillow significantly improved cervical deformation, generating only an additional 5.09% stress on the cartilage, and improved physiological curvature by 18.12% on first use. Conclusion: The custom 3D printed cervical pillow, with its lightweight, breathable, and comfortable advantages, can safely and effectively treat mechanical cervical spondylosis.
