Developing an Energy Monitoring System for Small and Medium Consumers: A Step-by-Step Guide
Currently, energy monitoring and management are indispensable for small and medium-sized consumers, and new approaches in hardware and software are being proposed. This article presents a comprehensive step-by-step guide for designing and implementing a custom energy monitoring system. It integrates an energy meter and a Rogowski coil for current measurement with low uncertainty. By exploring the historical importance and technical advancements of these technologies in the context of related works, the article provides a foundation for the results presented. It covers the system architecture, calibration procedures, device specifications, and firmware complexities in the Materials and Methods section, serving as a roadmap for developers of new energy monitoring solutions. The Developed Prototype section examines calibration and uncertainty evaluation, using ISO G.U.M. as a reference, and offers insights on details such as equipment uncertainty, repeatability, and ADC resolution.
