A Study of the Mechanism of ‘N[p]+V‘ Construction Formation
The purpose of this paper is to investigate ‘N(patient)+V’ among detachable words in the VN structure and to identify the syntactic and semantic characteristics of this type of detachable word. The detachable words in the VN structure appear to be the combination of the two morphemes responsible for the V and N components to form a single word, but syntactically, they can be separated from each other and used by inserting another element between the two components. Although the morphemes V and N of VN detachable words are responsible for the predicate and object components, respectively, the syntactic usage of VN detachable words is not uniformly the same. If both the N component and the V component express their basic meaning, then each component is syntactically and semantically independent, so it is easy to form NPatient+V-Construction. On the other hand, if any of the V and N components deviate from the basic meaning and undergo changes such as reduction, expansion, or transfer, the dependence between the components increases, and it is relatively difficult to form the NPatient+V-Construction. In particular, when the V and N components form a derivative meaning through the metaphorical process, their tightness is even higher, making it impossible to form the NPatient+V-Construction. However, if syntactic conditions such as indefinite form, cod form, emphasis on focus, and sub-explanation are given to emphasize the semantic conditions of limitation or specificity, it is possible to form the NPatient+V-Construction, by construction coercion. The establishment of the NPatient+V-Construction of VN structure can be used as a condition for judging the vocabulary and degree of VN conjunction, and at the same time, it can be used as a basis for revealing the spectrum of the detachable words.
