The trial of labour after a caesarean section in a diabetic woman

To determine the frequency of trial of labour after caesarean section (TOLAC) and the success rate of this trial in women with diabetes as well as in a control population so we can expand the indication for TOLAC in diabetic women. This is a retrospective case-control study of 400 cases: 200 diabetic women compared to 200 non-diabetic women in the obstetrics and gynaecology department of the Monastir University Hospital Centre over a period of 5 years. The rate of patients with a scarred uterus was 29% (53 cases) in the diabetes group against 15% (30 cases) in the control group. The trial of labour is accepted in 24 women in the diabetes group against 26 women in the in the control group. The trial of labour failed in 17% (4 cases) of diabetic women compared to 38% of those not diabetic. The rate of elective caesarean section for uterine scarring can be reduced in women with diabetes. Diabetic women and the indications for trial of labour can be expanded. The success rate of TOLAC is high in diabetic women, which can be explained by the fact that women with high pregnancies are better selected before undergoing this test.
