Enhancing gestational diabetes care: Mobile-based glucose monitoring to mitigate complications
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) presents significant risks for maternal and fetal well-being, necessitating vigilant medical oversight during pregnancy. This retrospective study evaluated the impact of myDiabby® software implementation on GDM patient care and main complications in Limoges University Hospital Center. Among 622 pre-myDiabby® and 649 myDiabby® patients, the myDiabby® group exhibited significantly reduced risks of caesarean section (25.7% vs. 19.7%, P = 0.001) and premature delivery (9.5% vs. 6.2%, P = 0.028). After adjustment on pre-pregnancy Body Mass Index (BMI), maternal age, prematurity and induced labor, the use of telemedicine was independently associated with reduction of caesarian sections (OR = 0.685, P = 0.007). Glycemic control improved (66.6% vs 85.4%, P < 0.001) with only a tendency toward the increase of insulin treatment. The use of MyDiabby® remained associated with glycemic control (OR = 2.365, P < 0.001) independently from BMI before pregnancy, quality of monitoring and personal history of GDM. These findings highlight the potential benefits of using telemedicine tools in the management of GDM.
